“With deep sadness, we say goodbye to Camilo, son of Che and promoter of his ideas,” the president said on his Twitter account.

According to the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, Camilo Guevara March was visiting Caracas when he died on Monday of “a pulmonary embolism which caused a heart attack”.

The Venezuelan Ambassador to Cuba, Adan Chavez, brother of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (1999-2013), said he missed “an extraordinary companion and promoter of the study and preservation of the legacy of his dad”.

The second in a family of four children

A graduate in labor law, Camilo Guevara March was director of the Che Guevara Studies Center in Havana, an institution dedicated to the perpetuation of the work and thought of “Che”.

Born in 1962, he was the second of four siblings of the Cuban-Argentine guerrilla fighter killed by the Bolivian army in 1967, and his Cuban wife Aleida March, also an armed fighter.

The “Che” had another daughter (Hilda who died in 1995), born of a previous marriage with the Peruvian Hilda Gadea.

Camilo Guevara March was the father of three daughters, born from two separate marriages. Little known both in Cuba and abroad, it is above all Aleida, his older sister and doctor, who usually represents the family during ceremonies and tributes dedicated to “Che”.
