The opening of the 2022/23 World Cup is disrupted by unhealthy climate situations. Scheduled for Saturday, the enormous women of Sölden has certainly been canceled.
The choice fell shortly earlier than 8 a.m., when the organizers had initially introduced that the beginning of the primary spherical had merely been postponed by one hour. The snowfall of the evening and the forecast for the day inspire this choice.
Heavy rain turned to snow from an altitude of 2500 m on a part of the Rettenbach glacier, the place the race was to happen. The free ski had already been canceled on Friday resulting from a robust wind which prevented the ski lifts from working.
“It is precisely what we feared, the worst, that occurred. The rain and snow soaked the monitor a lot. We are able to hardly transport snow in these situations. It is also very harmful for everybody the monitor preparers to maneuver on such a slope”, defined Markus Mayr, director of girls’s races for the FIS.
The beginning of the season is due to this fact delayed by at the least 24 hours. Climate situations needs to be milder on Sunday for the lads’s large, whose first spherical is scheduled for 10 a.m. However the process of the monitor preparers promised to be significantly delicate by then.
