The Oscar for dual vocational training | swiss baker
From September 7 to 11, Bern will host the central Swiss professional championships, SwissSkills, for the third time. On the stand of the Swiss bakers-confectioners, the best apprentices of 2021 and 2022 will compete for the title of Swiss champion in the bakery-pastry, pastry-confectionery and retail categories. A total of 150 apprenticeship trades will be presented on site and 85 championships will be organised.
As in 2018, the SwissSkills will take place on the Bernese exhibition site Bernexpo. More than 1150 young professionals will give their all on site. The best apprentices of 2021 and 2022 will also compete in the competition arena of Swiss bakers and confectioners. With the title of Swiss champion up for grabs as well as the opportunity to experience a lot, benefit from a public presence and exchange with like-minded people.
The SwissSkills 2022 will be open from Wednesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They should be visited by 2,582 classes, or around 60,000 pupils. A great showcase for advertising the next generation and dual vocational training. All participants are guaranteed to attract attention, as more than 200,000 visitors and many journalists are expected!
Competition days and highlights
In the competition arena of the BCS, the twelve best apprentices in the bakery-confectionery, confectionery-confectionery and retail categories will compete for the title of Swiss champion. For four days, three competitors from each of the three categories can be observed at work each day. The duration of the competition is eight hours, including workstation cleaning, in production and seven hours in retail. The competitions will take place from Wednesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bakery-pastry orientation always starts at 7:30 a.m. with the tests.
An experienced entertainment team
As in 2014 and 2018, singer and host Linda Fäh will regularly conduct short interviews with the candidates and the members of the jury. She has a close relationship with the branch and was named Bread and Chocolate Ambassador in 2019. Sébastien Knecht will be in charge of French co-moderation, as he did successfully in 2018. Daniel Nyfeler (see opposite ), president of the Competition Commission, will be present every day on the stand of the Swiss bakers-confectioners and will give an interview a day to Linda Fäh.
If the public has questions about the competitions or the different professions, the volunteers will be happy to answer them. In addition, our apprentices will be available on the stand to answer questions about our professions.
And the winner or winner is…
On Saturday, September 10, the closing ceremony and ranking announcement will take place in the nearby PostFinance arena, primarily for competitors and their companions. Only then will we know who will be crowned Swiss champion 2022 in each profession. A separate ticket is required to attend the awards ceremony.
The entertaining Sunday program
On Sunday, there will be no more competitions at SwissSkills, but the trip to Bern is still worth it: exciting speeches and demonstrations as well as other activities will be offered at all stands. In the competitive arena of Swiss bakers and confectioners, host Linda Fäh will notably conduct regular interviews with various professionals in the sector. In addition, visitors will be able to make butter braids and will certainly receive one or the other good advice. Entertaining demonstrations will also take place, for example with the 2020 Swiss champions and 2022 WorldSkills candidates Vera Stocker (bakery-pastry) and Juliana Thöny (pastry-confectionery). In addition, the new Swiss champions will be interviewed by Linda Fäh. And, “last but not least”, you will have the opportunity to drive a powerful vehicle or use an exclusive high-tech device under the guidance of a professional. A visit is a must!
It will also be possible to follow the closing ceremony in livestream on blick.ch.
The SwissSkills are finally back!
