All-round security operation in Cannes
All-round blue. At the request of the public prosecutor, around fifty national police officers (from Cannes, with reinforcements from the district and from Nice and from the border police) and around twenty municipal police officers were deployed in the city center in the sectors of République, the train station and the Croisette in Cannes, for security checks from 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fifteen traffic offenses were recorded, and an individual was arrested at the wheel of a rental car declared stolen. A few drug detentions were also pinned down. Sixteen foreigners in an irregular situation on our territory were also arrested, one of whom was carrying a tear gas canister. They will be placed in an administrative detention centre.
While welcoming this operation, the mayor of Cannes David Lisnard believes that “It is fundamental that the State assumes its sovereign mission aimed at ensuring the safety of its fellow citizens and that it controls its migratory flows. This is why I regularly call on the Minister of the Interior and the Prefect of the Alps- Maritimes to denounce the reduction in the number of the National Police in the Cannes district because the central police station in Cannes has remained structurally understaffed for several years. The presence of the police as close as possible to the ground and in a sustainable manner is essential. , especially for a city like Cannes whose population can triple in high season.”
