The FC Basel stadium will be transformed. The STADION+ project should enable the Joggeli to meet future challenges. Ecology as well as economic and social aspects are at the heart of this project.

Inaugurated more than 20 years ago, the Parc Saint-Jacques will be modernized. This is what the St. Jakob-Park cooperative said in a press release on Monday. The objective is to improve the security of the stadium, its sustainability, allow more matches to be held and offer greater flexibility.

According to the cooperative, ecology is at the forefront of the project. Indeed, the new envelope of the building will be composed of photovoltaic modules. Parc Saint-Jacques will thus be able to cover all of its energy needs.

This renovation project also provides for the separation of the flow of supporters and the improvement of the circulation of people. This will increase the security of the place. The Joggeli will thus meet the current standards of national and international football.

From an economic point of view, the use of modern technologies and durable materials should reduce maintenance costs. In addition, the measures to strengthen security should lead to a reduction in security expenditure for the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Country as well as for the FCB.

Finally, the total costs of this project are estimated at approximately 50 million francs. The cooperative could only finance about ten percent of this sum. There are therefore 45 million to be financed, mostly by the cantons of Basel-City and Basel-Country. This means that everything will be decided at the political level. If the two parliaments give the green light and the people approve the project, the works could be finished in 2028.
