News – SC BERN – Optimism at the general meeting

National League

SC Bern

On the day of its general meeting, SCB Eishockey AG invited the media to its annual press conference for the season. The event was also placed under the sign of two farewells: the Chairman of the Board of Directors Defeat Brechbühl and the CEO Marc Luthi last spoke to the media in those roles.

Beat Brechbühl recalled that last season was sportingly disappointing with an 11th place finish and the 2021/22 season ended in a loss. Once again, the pandemic had limited attendance at matches (3G with compulsory mask wearing, even 2G for two months). Thanks to hardship assistance, rigid cost management and partner support, the deficit was limited to CHF 213,383.

Given the circumstances, Beat Brechbühl spoke of a “satisfactory result”. He leaves the post of sales rep with a good feeling. “I am optimistic and convinced that the new management duo will do a good job”.

More than 11,000 subscriptions sold

CEO Marc Lüthi – who will assume the chairmanship of the board of directors from September 1 – explained the figures in detail. COO Rolf Bachmann presented the “immer & ewig” advertising campaign and other novelties such as the improved SCB application, the new video cube and the integration of LED strips with changing content.

“We want to get closer to people again and give them an experience in the PostFinance Arena”Bachmann said. The still stable environment with more than 350 business partners is pleasing. The sale of season tickets is at over 11,000 and continues.

The designated CEO Raeto Refine evoked in the sporting perspectives the immense upheaval of the workforce (13 arrivals, 15 departures) and formulated as objective of the season the qualification for the playoffs – “ideally, through the direct route via the top 6”. Additionally, Raffainer talked about the new red home kit, the color red “symbolizing the mood of renewal in the sporting field. We want to attack again”.

Bomo Thun should join the SCB

Women’s ice hockey should be part of SC Bern’s strategic direction in the future. Raffainer informed about advanced talks with Women’s League EV Bomo Thun. The objective is to sustainably promote women’s ice hockey in the region and to integrate the Bomo Thun team into the SCB organization for the 2023/24 season.
