No cases of autochthonous dengue have been identified in Bordeauxneither in Gironde. A letter sent on August 22, 2022 by the Regional Health Agency of Nouvelle-Aquitaine to the Order of Physicians could suggest the opposite, but it is a misunderstanding, informed the ARS to Actu.fr Bordeaux.
“The wording of the mail implied that the person could have caught it in New Aquitaine. This is not the case at all, it is a person who came from another region, ”she said.
We speak of an autochthonous case when a person contracts the disease on national territory. In this case, it was indeed an indigenous case, but in another region, Occitania. “The case is not Girondin, it was someone who came from the Hautes-Pyrénées for family reasons”.
In 2021, 21 cases of dengue fever in the region, all imported
The tiger mosquito does not carry the dengue virus, but can transmit it to a healthy subject if it has previously bitten a person affected by the disease. This can cause fever, headaches, body aches and lead to fatigue.
If a doctor reports a case of dengue, mosquito control measures take place within a perimeter of 150 meters around the places frequented by the sick person.
According to the latest figures from ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine, between May 1 and November 30, 2021, 21 cases of dengue fever were reported in the region, all of which were imported cases. For 17 of the cases, the patients had stayed in Reunion.
